Quezon Power remains strongly committed to its vision of creating a positive impact on the lives of Maubanins by delivering vital social services and providing much-needed assistance where they are most needed by the community.

 

Since the Quezon Power Project entered its development phase in 1996, Quezon Power has rolled out initiatives that formed the pillars of its Sustainable Development Program with the following areas of focus:

 

    • Education;
    • Health;
    • Livelihood and Skills Training;
    • Environmental Stewardship; and
    • Host Community Development.

 

Various initiatives undertaken under the Sustainable Development Program go over and beyond government and regulatory requirements for community involvement of power companies operating in the country.

 

Through the years, the Sustainable Development Program has helped Maubanins improve their quality of life and uplift their standard of living, and is deemed instrumental in Mauban’s transformation from a fourth-class municipality in 1996 to a candidate for cityhood today.

EDUCATION: The Power to achieve dreams

Quezon Power endeavors to provide a brighter future for the children of Mauban by equipping students with necessary life skills and nurturing their natural talents.

 

Under its Sustainable Development Program, Quezon Power provides college scholarships to less fortunate but deserving high school students and sends out-of-school youth to technical or vocational training programs. Their teachers are also given the opportunity to become effective educators through teaching skills enhancement courses.

HEALTH: The Power to care

Quezon Power is deeply Involved In the community’s health and general well-being by continuously providing medical and dental services to the municipality’s 40 barangays. The plant’s medical team conducts lectures on the prevention and treatment of major and chronic illnesses including those impacting reproductive health. It has also established a feeding program for malnourished children In two Mauban elementary schools. The feeding program Is complementedby lectures on health and nutrition for the parents.

LIVELIHOOD & SKILLS TRAINING: The Power to be self-reliant

Quezon Power believes that given the proper skills, technology and guidance. The residents of Mauban – whether they are farmers, fisher folk, women, or out-of-school youth – can carve a better life for themselves through sustainable livelihood programs.

 

These programs support micro-entrepreneurs, cooperatives and nongovernment organizations (NGOs) through entrepreneurial and leadership skills training. The company also gave a grant to ABS-CBN Bayan Foundation to provide loans to Mauban’s microentrepreneurs. The program boasts of a 100% loan repayment rate, proof of the micro-entrepreneurs’ good business sense, trustworthiness and responsibility

ENVIRONMENT: The Power to protect and serve

Quezon Power utilizes proven technology to assure the environmental soundness of the plant thereby preserving the community’s natural resources.

 

Environmental safeguards such as an electrostatic precipitator (ESP), continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS), waste water treatment facilities, and a covered conveyor belt all allow the project to meet – and in many cases exceed – local and international environmental standards.

 

Quezon Power’s team of experts also monitors surface and groundwater quality, marine ecology and oceanography, agriculture and soils, terrestrial and freshwater ecology as part of the project’s commitment to the environment and compliance with the requirements of the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC).

HOST COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: The Power to assist

Pursuant to the Department of Energy’s Energy Regulation 1-94 (DOE ER 1-94), Quezon Power continues to provide funds to Mauban as host community for its electrification drive, development and livelihood including reforestation, watershed management, health and environmental enhancement.

 

The company has also provided financial assistance for the construction and repair of roads and pathways, bridges, spillways and irrigation systems, water systems, public markets, schools and day care centers, multipurpose halls and pavements, shallow wells and communal toilets. The assistance also covers the purchase of medical equipment and hospital supplies for the local rural health unit and loan assistance to farmers’ and fishermen’s cooperatives and livelihood projects.
